I'm so smart . . . sort of

Guys, I figured it out.  I figured out how to record form my PS4.  I can't wait to start playing some of those games now.  Apparently you have go in to your settings and turn off HDCP.  I was under the impression that an update turned that off automatically and you had to turn it on if you wanted to.  Apparently the reverse was true.  Any suggestion of what I play first?

Games:
Horizon Zero Dawn
Ratchet & Clank
Bloodborne
Grand Kingdom
I am Setsuna
Mighty No. 9
Rime

New Purchase - PS4 Pro

Guess what?

I bought a Playstation 4 Pro

Yes, I know I probably don't need a new gaming system but I couldn't resist and I'll tell you why.

I have a list of games I'd like to own for the PS4 and two of them came up as free games this month for Playstation Plus members.  Well, lucky me I'm one of them.

Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank were/are the free games for the month of March 2018.  If I wanted to save some money, now would be the time to get a PS4 . . . except that getting one isn't actually saving me money since I would still have to pay money for the console.  But I couldn't pass up the opportunity especially since I got a nice boost in my paycheck with our year end bonuses coming through.

I got the PS4 Pro (1TB) and immediately downloaded those 2 games.  I also picked up some free to play games as well just so I'd have something else to play.  One of those games is Gems of War.

I have Gems for the XBox One and love it.  I'm about level 167 or so and I've put a large amount of hours in to that game.  Unfortunately I realized around level 80 or so that I did some things in the beginning that have hurt me later on in the game.  At the time I didn't know better because I didn't fully grasp how things would play out.  Once I did, I felt like a fool.  With getting the game again on PS4 I now have the chance to start over and take what I've learned and maybe be better at training, or faster at leveling up.  So now I'm playing the same game on two different consoles.

Of course just having have these few games wasn't enough.  Could I call myself a real gamer if I only have a paltry list of games for the latest system?  Not in my mind anyway.  I've since been on a hunt to find bargins and great deals on other PS4 games.  And my wish list is still growing.

I've picked up I am Setsuna and Horizon Zero Dawn.  I'm so excited about both of them.  I can't wait to play them.  The question now is: Which game do I play first?  I've got so many games on the go right now it's hard to figure out what to play out of those without adding another one to the mix.  But whatever game I pick I was going to record it and post to YouTube.  Except things haven't gone has planned.

Once I got the PS4 hooked up and downloaded an update, I turned on the Elgato and that's when things started to go wrong.  Even though one of the systems the Elgato is natively set to record from is the PS4 it wasn't recognizing the signal and freaked out like it does with my PS3.  (I still haven't figured out why I can no longer record from my PS3.  I've been able to do it in the past but it won't work any longer no matter what I've tried.)

Once I gave up on that and just started to play and enjoy my new system the power started freaking out and it would turn off and back on again randomly.  The thing with Gems of War is that if you are in a battle and lose connection (either you internet goes out or your power) you get "credit" for losing the battle and a loss goes on your record.  After this happened about 3 times I just turned everything off and went to bed.

I haven't given up yet on recording from my PS4, I just have to figure out what went wrong.  Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to play from it again either.  Like I said, I've got a lot of games going at once.  More on that in a later post.

So if you've got a PS4 system and would like to recommend games to me to play/buy I'd love to see them in the comments below.  I've ignored the PS4 games for so long because I knew I wouldn't be able to afford the system for awhile so I really don't know what good games are out there; older ones or newer ones.  I could really use some suggestions.  Any games.  Any genres.  I'm open to trying new things.

New Game Console?

I have a bunch of money saved up and if it doesn't take all of it to fix my garage door, I think I'll buy a new gaming console.  Which one should I get?

Playstation 4 Pro
Nintendo 3DS XL
Nintendo Switch
Wii U

I've wanted a PS4 for awhile now and that desire has only increased watching videos of Horizon Zero Dawn.  I want to play that game so bad.

On the other hand there are a LOT of games I'd like to get for the 3DS.  And I could get those games cheaper since they've been out for a while.  That makes getting one a little more attractive if it will save me money in the long run.

On the other hand the Switch might just scratch that itch for another handheld, portable game system.  There are only a couple of games I would get so far for the Switch but I'm sure there are more coming.

On the other hand I could get a Wii U.  Why a Wii U?  Pikmin 3.  Enough said.  I love the Pikmin games and I could play them for hours fine tuning my harvesting skills to shave just a few seconds here and there off of collecting things.  There are just so many subtle ways you can improve on your game play.  I don't know of many other games out for the Wii U that I absolutely have to have and I don't know if one game (even if it's Pikmin) is enough to buy a system just for that game.

On the other hand I could just add the money to my new computer fund.  Hopefully I'll be able to get a new very good supped gaming PC within the next 6-9 months.  Other expenses come first but I'm saving and hoping for that day.

With all these arms I feel like Parvati.  I wish I was just as powerful a godess as she is.  Unfortunately, I'm not.  I'm mortal and have to make these all important life and death (of gaming) decisions.  So what do you think I should get?  It might not happen as it all depends on how much it will cost to fix my garage door so it will open again.  But if there's money left over . . .

Poll Results: Which new system

Here are the results of my latest poll:

Which new system should I get with my tax refund?

PS3 = 0 votes
Wii U = 0 votes
PS4 = 2 votes
Xbox One = 0 votes

I didn't get a chance to vote in this poll because I got sidetracked by a close friend's death.  If I would have voted I would have picked the PS3.

There's a lot of games that I've wanted to get for the PS3 and I don't know that I could "cut my losses" and just jump straight ahead to the PS4.  I've been looking around trying to find the best deal since with the PS4 coming out I'm sure there would be.  Unfortunately I haven't found any deals that I like.  So I bought some other stuff instead.

I picked up a couple more "new" games to play and I've been having some fun playing them.  I got Fable Anniversary, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Diablo III.  I had to pick up some other things for the house and such so my tax refund is spent already.  I will get the PS3 . . . I just might have to budget for it for awhile before I can afford to get one.

After I get my PS3 I will be getting an Xbox One (maybe with next years refund).  After that it will probably be the PS4.  The problem right now is I really want to play Pikmin 3 and that's only out on the Wii U.  But I can't justify buying a new console to just play one game.  And I'm not sure what other games out there for the Wii U that I would be interested in.

I have been beginning to wonder recently at what point does my innocent hobby become an obsession and I have to have it all.  In the stitching world we have SABLE.  It stands for Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy.  It means we have more projects to work on than we would ever finish before we die.  At some point I'm going to have GABLE.  Games Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy.  How will I play them all?

New Poll: What "new" system should I get with my tax refund?

Hey, a NEW POLL!  It's been awhile since I've had one of those.  Well, here it is:

What "new" system should I get with my tax refund?

PS3
Wii U
PS4
Xbox One

Please keep in mind available games for that system.  If you know me or have followed my blog for awhile you know what types of games I like.  And while I say "new" some of those system aren't exactly new.  But they're new to me so there you go.

You have until March 18th to vote.  Please be sure to tell me why in the comments.  You can do it anonymously if you don't want me to know that my Xbox 360 loving gamer friend is really a Wii U fan boy at heart.
