Poll Results - What is my theme song?

This has probably been my most disappointing poll. I thought it would get some laughs (and it has added a whole "American Idol audition" element to gameplay) but what do I know. Here are the results:

What should be my theme song?

People are People (depeche mode) = 0 votes
Jessie's Girl (Rick Springfield) = 1 vote
Closer (Nine Inch Nails) = 1 vote
Sunglasses at Night (Corey Hart) = 0 votes
Numb (Linkin Park) = 0 votes
Machine Head (Bush) = 0 votes
Smooth Criminal (Alien Ant Farm) = 0 votes
Bleed it Out (Linkin Park) = 0 votes
One Night in Bangkok (Murray Head) = 1 votes
Headstrong (Trapt) = 0 votes

If you listen to some of the lyrics you might know why I picked some of them.

People are People
I think we should all start singing this whenever jerks online start the "nigga", "your mamma" or "fag" routine. I'm sorry those monologues are just getting old. The song fits anyway.

Jessie's Girl
No I don't have a boyfriend named Jessie. I don't have a boyfriend at all. :( But I love Rick Springfield and this is probably the only song people know of his. Besides it would be nice if someone wanted "Jessie's" girl . . . even if there isn't a Jessie.

Closer
Um . . . listen to the lyrics and then you'll know. Doin' it doggie style.

Sunglasses at Night
My eyes hurt so bad right now that I wish I was waring sunglasses at night. Actually I wish I could pop my eyeballs right out of my head, ship them off to someone to be repaired, then pop them back in when they come back. But only if the warranty hasn't expired. Besides the line "don't be afraid of the guy in shades, oh no" sums up the fear the opposing team should have of me.

Numb
There's been so much sh*t going on in my life that I have become a little bit numb about things. That might be why my flirting has been way off lately. I just can't seem to be bothered. But maybe you haven't noticed.

Machine Head
Okay the title doesn't give any clues as to why I picked this song. But I love the lyrics "Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out, breathe in". A little reminder just to breathe (after a bad day at work, or glitchers in a match) is always a good idea.

Smooth Criminal
I said when I opened this poll that I liked Alien Ant Farm's version better. I liked the Michael Jackson version but I always felt it missed the mark of being a great song. AAF got it right and hit a bull's eye. And maybe I'd like to think of myself as a "smooth criminal".

Bleed it Out
I'm a huge Linkin Park fan. Oh wait, that should be HUGE fan. I feel a little naughty that their teenage/college angst music has struck a chord with me. I guess that just means I'm young at heart (or I need to grow up). And "bleed it out" is a perfect slogan for a game winning kill. The more I think about it though, it probably relates more to me always dying in a match. "I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away".

One Night in Bangkok
For MadMax maybe I should have put "One Night in bang cock". He runs around with his double cocks out and "enjoys" himself way to much playing that way. When I think about it, a year or so ago MadMax wouldn't have been willing to say "cock" around me. He wouldn't have wanted to offend my feminine ears. He was such the gentleman. But now he runs around with some double cocks . . . and sound effects. I always get a kick out of it. Partly because I know my guy friends have finally let down their macho walls and have accepted me into the fold. And partly because it's just hilarious to listen to. And Hell Weasell gets 1,000,000 kudos points from me for knowing about this song. If I ever sang on Broadway I would want to star in the musical Chess. I wouldn't get to sing this song, but I'll still have MadMad and his double cocks to picture in my head.

Headstrong
When I got an iTunes gift card from my manager for Christmas this was the first song I bought. If I could put a custom ringtone on my cell phone it would be the chorus for this song

"Back off, I'll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong
Headstrong, we're headstrong"

Those words just fit me. I'm stubborn and headstrong and I like myself like that (even though it's gotten me in trouble at times).

I didn't vote in this poll because I like all of these songs. I didn't want to choose. That was your job. Unfortunately this poll was so bad you didn't want to do your job. I guess that's for the good. Now you won't have to listen to any of us sing a song badly when I get the match winning kill. That that that happens much anyway. Maybe the next poll will be better. Any suggestions of what you want to find out from people?

New Poll - What is my theme song?

Okay time for a new poll!

What should be my theme song?

People are People (depeche mode)
Jessie's Girl (Rick Springfield)
Closer (Nine Inch Nails)
Sunglasses at Night (Corey Hart)
Numb (Linkin Park)
Machine Head (Bush)
Smooth Criminal (Alien Ant Farm-I like it better than Jackson's version)
Bleed it Out (Linkin Park)
One Night in Bangkok (Murray Head)
Headstrong (Trapt)

For those of you who don't know any of those song you can listen to samples on Amazon or iTunes.

Everybody deserves a theme song right? John Williams was a genius when it comes to this and characters in a movie. You might not know a piece of music as "Leia's theme" but if I played it for you you would instantly think of a Princess in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. So why can't I have a theme song in life? Or at least in gaming?

This is what I propose: We all pick a theme song and when one of us gets the game ending winning kill in Modern Warfare 2 we sing that person's song as the camera rolls showing the final blow, just to mess with the other team. I might even be persuaded to sing snatches of all the voting choices during matches until the poll closes. The voting public needs to be informed.

Some of the choices might seem obvious, others not so much. Vote in the poll and tell me what you think. If you have a better suggestion then one listed, put it in the comments. And if you have a suggestion for your own theme song share that too. Otherwise I might have to come up with one of my own for you. I hope you like Air Supply songs.

Poll Results - Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

Here are the poll results:

What musical game should I get?

Rock Band = 3 votes
Guitar Hero = 3 votes

Okay, I kind of cheated here. I don't really have a preference, hence the poll, so I waited until the very end and voted for Rock Band just to tie it up. Maybe I'll get both games. Here's the pros and cons for both games, as I see it.

Let's start with Guitar Hero. Every time I think about this game or look at the song selections I see heavy metal. Metalica and the likes. I've never really been a heavy metal fan. Occasionally I'll like the cross-over hit but that's about it. There are A LOT of songs for this game that I haven't even heard of. And if that's the chase how am I'm going to "play" them?

On the pro side there are A LOT of songs to choose from. And I believe Linkin Park has some songs for the offering. And I LOVE Linkin Park. I don't think I could play every song I was familiar with (or have the Microsoft Points to buy them all). This franchise will be around for a long time so there could be many years of entertainment if I decided to go with Guitar Hero.

Now let's look at Rock Band. I love the fact that there are multiple instruments to play with. If I got bored of the guitar I could play the bass . . . or the drums . . . or sing. That really appeals to me especially when I get frustrated with something it would be nice to have something else to play for awhile (like playing a couple of rounds of Headquarters instead of Team Deathmatch all the time *hint hint*). I have/had the game Lips so I've already got a singing game but I like the song selections better for Rock Band, vocally, than what's available for Lips.

The downside is the song catalogue is not as vast as Guitar Hero and I don't think they have any Linkin Park songs. Bummer. I'm sure that song list will grow but whereas Guitar Hero seems more "metal" in it's choices Rock Band seems more "happening" (meaning songs popular right now) and I don't listen to the radio too much. And when I do it's usually talk radio on my way home from work. Yeah, I know I'm getting old.

If either one of these games made a Styx, Genesis, Rick Springfield, Howard Jones, or Monkees stand alone game (like they did for Aerosmith and The Beatles) I think that just might seal the deal which one I go for. Having said that, I guess I just revealed where my musical tastes are . . . back in the 80's. You got a problem with that buster?

New Poll - Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

So I've been thinking about taking the plunge into the musical genre of gameplay, but I can't decide which game to get. So I'm letting you decide . . . or at least vote.

Which musical game should I get?

Rock Band
Guitar Hero

Vote now or forever hold your peace. Or something like it.

Poll Results - What game are you most excited for?

So here are the belated poll results:

What game are you most excited for?

Mass Effect 2 = 4 votes
BioShock 2 = 3 votes

With the exception of Final Fantasy XIII these two games are probably the most anticipated sequels to come to an Xbox console this year. Unless, of course, Star Wars Battlefront 3 miraculously shows up this year. But since Final Fantasy has a more limited appeal to people I kept the choices to two out of the three "biggies".

My vote this time was easy. I voted for BioShock. Why? Because I've finished that game. I hadn't gotten very far in Mass Effect before it was stolen so I wasn't in it enough to get all gaga over the game. Dain's letting me borrow his disk so that I can get caught up so I can eventually play the sequel. So far I like what I see but I haven't finished it yet.

BioShock on the other hand is one game I have played to completion and loved every minute of it. I remember the first time I played it with a torrential rainstorm happening outside and all the lights off inside. It scared the bejeezies out of me. I played for maybe an hour before I had to play something happy and bright so I don't keep jumping out of my skin. That was also at the time when I had a really loud neighbor in my apartment complex. Sometimes their noise would get so loud I couldn't hear my own TV. I invested in a pair of stereo earmuff type of headset. It was wonderful because it almost completely drowned out all the neighborly noise and the sound from the game came in in stereo. That meant I'd hear a Big Daddy coming from the right and when I'd turn my character around that way sure enough he would be there. Of course a bunch of times I would actually turn my own head and not my character. I think that was the best way to play BioShock.

I still haven't unpacked that headset yet but I'm hoping to find them before I play the sequel. I don't need them to block out noise but it made playing the game so much easier, enjoyable and scarier than hell. But I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm sure I'll enjoy finishing Mass Effect, and playing the sequel, but for me I'm more excited to see if the developer of BioShock can carry over that same scary, but wonderful, feeling that players had playing the first game. And the multiplayer option should be interesting to see how that plays out. Let's just hope they haven't screwed up the game just to get a "multiplayer experience" that some people thought the first one was lacking. Personally, I thought the first one was great just the way it was. Either way, I know what game my friends have been playing for the last couple of weeks . . . and I know the next game they'll be playing the next couple of weeks. I think if people could have voted more than once this poll would have been tied. And as a gamer, I'm not complaining.
